Pavement Posies
When we praise the posies that pierce the pavement,
when we call them strong and resilient and unstoppable,
do we forget to grieve the spirits silenced by cement?
When we hold up those with the audacity to survive,
who never sought audacity but only another day,
do we dishonor those who lacked their luck?
When we gift flowers to those still alive,
do we remember to give flowers to graves?
When we shame the streets that stunted us,
do we step up to smash their stones?
When we pick the posie that pierced the pavement,
do we also replenish the cracks with seeds?
